Joan died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday 2 July 2009, the morning of her 84th birthday. She had been suffering from motor neurone disease. Joan was a most remarkable, energetic and creative person. She leaves her husband Peter, two sons, five grand-children, and two great-grand-children with a third expected. She had 64 years of happy marriage and had known Peter for over 69 years. Her cremation will take place at Parndon Wood Crematorium, Parndon Wood Road, Harlow, Essex CM19 4SF, at 3.00 p.m. on Friday 10th July 2009. Refreshments will follow at the Churchgate Hotel, Churchgate Street Village, Old Harlow, Essex CM17 0JT. Family flowers only please. In recognition of the tremendous and unstinting support given to Joan during her illness, we would like donations to go to the Joan Hodgson Fund at the local surgery where we hope they can purchase medical equipment in her memory.
